At Ashfield Valley Primary School, we believe that every pupil has the potential to be a leader. Our Pupil Leadership opportunities empower pupils to take on meaningful roles within the school community, fostering responsibility, teamwork and confidence. By giving our pupils a voice and opportunities to lead, we help them develop essential life skills that will serve them well in school and beyond.

What is Pupil Leadership?

Pupil Leadership involves pupils taking on leadership roles, helping to shape the school environment and influence decisions that affect their learning and well-being. Whether through formal roles or daily responsibilities, our pupils are encouraged to be active contributors to the school and wider community.

Pupil Leadership Opportunities:

At Ashfield Valley Primary, we offer a variety of leadership roles suited for students of all ages and abilities. These include:

  • School Council Representatives: Pupils have been elected from Year 3 to 6 by Mrs Begum and Miss Griffin. Pupils represent their class, discussing ideas and issues that impact the school.
  • Well-being Ambassadors: Year 5 pupils have been elected by Mrs Nisar, our Mental Health Lead. They wrote a letter about why they think they would make a good well-being ambassador. They represent their class, discussing ideas and issues that impact the school. An initiative that the well-being ambassadors have implemented is ‘The Buddy Bench’. This encourages children to interact with others from different year groups.
  • Digital Leaders: Year 6 pupils have been elected by Miss Hameed, our Computing Lead. They wrote a letter about why they think they would make a good Digital Leaders. Pupils responsible for assisting with technology, promoting online safety, and helping their peers with digital learning tools. They have been making posters for online safety, which have been displayed around school.
  • Eco Council: Pupils have been elected from across the school by Mrs Ward. They are dedicated to environmental initiatives, helping the school become more eco-friendly and teaching others about sustainability.

How We Support Our Leaders:

We provide training and guidance for all pupil leaders to help them succeed in their roles. Teachers and staff offer ongoing support, ensuring that pupils develop the skills they need to lead with confidence and make a positive impact.

Our Pupil Leadership opportunities not only benefit individual pupils but also enriches the entire school community. By involving pupils in decision-making and giving them leadership responsibilities, we create a school environment where pupils feel empowered, valued, and motivated to contribute.
