If your child is not well and not able to come to school, we then ask that parents telephone the school office on 01706522758 everyday of their child’s absence.
We have a 48-hour diarrhoea and sickness policy at Ashfield Valley Primary School – Your child cannot attend school until 48 hours has passed since they have last been sick or had diarrhoea.
Please see below some guidance from the government regarding illness and your child’s education.
If you have to take your child out of school for any reason, including medical, dental, and school visit appointments, please inform the office as soon as possible, along with any supporting evidence of the appointment.
This is so that we can authorise the absence where we can and that your child is not marked as “unauthorised absent” in our register. Please see below guidance from the government regarding school attendance:
It is important that your child attends school every day, but we realise that there may be special circumstances when you need to request some time for leave. This must be done in advance by completing a form which can be collected from the school office. Once completed, please hand it in to the school office and this will be given to the headteacher, who will decide if leave is to be authorised. Unauthorised absence may be subject to a penalty fine which, £80 per parent, per pupil if paid within 21 days. Rising to, £160 per parent, per pupil if paid within 28 days.
Please refer to our attendance policy for further details.
Pupils learn new things at school every day. Missing school simply puts them behind and can hinder their chances. Please consider these implications carefully before taking your child out of school during term time.
Head Teachers cannot grant leave of absence unless there are exceptional circumstances. The application must be made in advance, and the head teacher must be satisfied that there are exceptional circumstances based on the individual facts and circumstances of the case which warrant the leave. Where a leave of absence is granted, the head teacher will determine the number of days a pupil can be away from school. A leave of absence is granted entirely at the head teacher’s discretion.
